The Total Gym 1900 and 1400 model have a closer price tag to weider ultimate body works. However, we agreed that we should only compare the best sellers of each brand. After reading our brand comparison below, you’ll agree with our choice.
Total Gym Vs Weider (Brand Comparison)
Total Gym is a popular brand known among households for their full body weightless workout equipment. They have made and sold more than ten different models over the past 15 years. Plus with celebrity endorsements from Christie Brinkley and Chuck Norris, they’ve become the go-to brand.
Weider, on the other hand, sells a wider variety of workout equipment. They have been in business for over 50 years and are known for selling quality products. However, they only have one full-body workout bench which is the weider ultimate body works.
Both brands sell their products through different vendors such as Amazon. However, some models of Total Gyms can only be bought through other vendors since the official website no longer sells them. As such we had to choose the best seller XLS model as it’s their current recommended starting model. The XLS is also available on both their official site and Amazon.

Design & Features
The weider ultimate body works 5000 has a unique design that stands apart from the Total Gym. All total gym models feature a vertical bar with incline levels for adjustments. The ultimate body works, in contrast, has a more telescoping design with its incline controller below the glide-board. Weider features foam padded nylon straps attached to a steel cable and pulley system that allows you free motion for a variety of exercises. Most total gym models also feature the same multi-grip handle attachments, however, they offer greater movement and precision in your workout actions.
The frame of the weider ultimate body works is made from durable steel tubing so it will last quite a while. Ultimate Body Works comes in a standard black and red color scheme and can be folded to fit under a bed or closet. Weider ultimate body works do not allow you to add additional attachments to the equipment which we find lacking. The total gym xls includes many workout attachments such as an AbCrunch attachment, a squat stand, and a leg pull accessory.
What Attachments Are Included?
The weider ultimate body works include their resistance bands which add 50lbs to your body weight. It also consists of a multi-purpose handle for doing sit-ups or chin ups. There is also an addition of squat stand at the bottom of the weider body works. Weider Total Body Works also includes a workout guide that will quickly get you started with your full body workouts.
What Are The Product Dimensions?
The difference between the weider ultimate body works vs total gym dimensions is slightly unnoticeable. The weider ultimate body works measures roughly 71″ x 26.5″ x 49.5 inches and weighs about 77lbs. Total Gym models weigh from 75 lbs up to 82 lbs on the XLS. The XLS model home gym has a dimension of 19″ x 90″ x 43 inches of floor space when in use. So the only major difference here is that the weider sits broader and higher than the xls.
Functionality
Weider Ultimate Body Works offer you the ability to complete a full body workout pretty much the same as any total gym model. The downside, however, is that the ultimate body works only allows you to do 50+ exercises. The basic variations of a total gym allow 65+ exercises while their bestselling XLS model offers the ability to perform 80+.
The weider does not come fully assembled and does require a short amount of time to get set up. Total Gym in contrast hardly requires any assembly apart from attaching the different inclusions. The good news is that assembly of the weider is not very difficult to do. You will only be attaching the base stabilizers and squat stand. This process will not usually take longer than 15 minutes.
What Are The Resistance Levels of The Weider vs Total Gym?
Weider ultimate body works offer seven incline options for a total of 55% of your body weight. The XLS model provides six levels of incline for roughly the same amount of body weight percent usage which is at 54% at level 6. The total gym 1400 which is closer in price to the weider offers eight levels of incline.
What Are The User Weight Limits?
Another big difference between the total gym vs weider is the user weight limit. The weider ultimate body works accommodate up to 250lbs while the XLS accommodates up to 400lbs. Total gym 1400 also has a higher user weight limit of 275lbs.
What Are The User Height Limits?
User height limits for both models are generally the same as both equipment measure about 7 1/2 feet. The weider ultimate body works and total gym models can support users below 6ft 5″ without challenges.
What Product Warranty Will You Receive?
The warranty of the weider ultimate body works is only 90 days, while the lowest known warranty for total gym models is one year. So the Total Gyms have the upper hand when it comes to warranty. The XLS model has a lifetime warranty for the frame and six months for the attachments.
Customer Reviews
Considering the popularity of both workout benches we had to take a closer look at what were the opinions of other users. After reviewing the personal testimonials from real users, we found varying opinions on both machines.
From our research, most users admit that “Total Gym” may produce great products. However, they still agreed that the weider ultimate body works equipment is “close enough” to a total gym. We likewise share the same opinion after testing the weider ultimate body works vs total gym models. So considering the price of the Weider, you will be getting a product that is nearly identical for a fraction of the cost. There were some minor complaints about the quality and screechy noises that the bench makes when exercising. These complaints were not a lot; still, it is something to consider when choosing between the total gym vs weider ultimate body works.
A word of caution:
Always remember that whenever you buy a product online, you may end up with a product with faults.
